I am aware of the Atlantis series but havent read it. With your recommendation I just bought all 5.

I read all sorts of literature, including the classics (Count of Monte Cristo, A Tale of Two Cities and Siddhartha are favorites but I am well versed in lit from around the world thanks to an AP English teacher and my own inquisitveness), fantasy, sci fi, space opera, historical fiction, biographies and alternate histories.

Have you ever read any of Newt Gingrichs alternate Civil War histories? If you havent you should. Great writing, very enjoyable. As an amateur Civil War historian myself, I had a lot of fun comparing Gingrichs version with the version I have pieced together.

Edward Rutherfurd writes historical fiction where he follows a set of families from a regions earliest days, through nationhood to the present. From wiki:

Edward Rutherfurd is a pen name for Francis Edward Wintle (born in 1948). He is best known as a writer of epic historical novels that span long periods of history but are set in particular places. His debut novel, Sarum, set the pattern for his work with a ten-thousand-year storyline.

My favorites of his are "Russia", "The Rebels of Ireland" and "The Princes of Ireland". He has a new one out in paperback called "China". His stuff is well researched.

Sorry to go off on a tangent. Im a bit of a bookworm and get excited.
