There are a few things that cause the medication, but the prevailing factor is that it tends to be in children that aren't having enough energy expended in healthy ways while being cooped up in their seat at school for 8 hours a day, and parents not wanting to deal with it.

Another problem is that it has become an excuse for not learning/harnessing discipline to focus so every time they get distracted, it ends up being "hurr hurr I've got ADHD".

Doctors are also all too willing to get children addicted to medication at an early age because it makes them money for the long term.

Last, but very far from least is the prevalence of information. No, not phones specifically though it is undeniably a factor that exacerbates the issue.

Children, through Reddit, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, etc. develop an addiction to information from an early age. They're being conditioned to crave the connection to the larger world, to know what's going on, to participate in the current trends, so on.

When you deprive them of this, withdrawal kicks in. They get depressed, moody, feel disconnected, etc.

This is an addiction I would assert that many of us here have and can acknowledge. We feel compelled to check back, we want to know what's going on, we don't want to miss anything, we want to see everything. Many of us who have developed this addiction acquired it during our adolescence or adulthood.

Imagine the brain developmental issues that arise from this sort of addiction from 5, 10 years old.
