Historically, it's been very useful to many a leader to frame a sort of "you're with us or you are the enemy" choice.

Just because the "answer” is unexpected and hidden, and requires a decoder key and tons of presumptions, doesnt make it nuanced. It almost always comes down to the same black and white answers. Bad guy. Satanic. Pedo. This allows for drastic and previously unthinkable solutions as well as providing a template to apply to all future questions.
Even if it were revealed to be for the greater good, and he showed how he was in control the entire time and had to say this and that and pretend and lie, and talk in code to a specific bunch online, and purposely misspelled things etc., etc , I wonder if people would vote for hi still. Because all wealth should be shared with anyone that has the misfortune of losing everything? There are homeless all over that have had horrible misfortune befall them. At least some of the immigrants are genuine and homeless. So their country isn't helping like they should so they go to where they've heard there is great wealth and people that are decent. Must mean open doors/borders/homes. I get what you are saying. I'm a follower of Christ as well, and so I am compassionate and feel the urge to help when I see horrible things happen to people.
I don't think he gets to choose the trial dates. The Judge does, I believe. I could be wrong but I'd be surprised if the defendant gets to choose the trial dates.
Everyone should watch the trial. Schools need to make it their civics lesson and businesses should treat it as a holiday. A ton of people don't even understand what the charges mean!
Yes, I recognize that too many people are willfully misunderstanding the charges and are terminally oppositional. You know the type. They'd cut off their nose to spite their face. But most Americans will be able to understand and learn from such a case. It really can be an amazing and great moment for Democracy if we let it.
