I haven't used Google search for years now. I was using either DuckDuckGo or Brave Search, but they have just as much manipulation going on, advertising etc.

Instead I'm paying $10/month for a private search engine that doesn't make any money on advertising. The results are much better than what "free" search engines provide. I haven't noticed any censorship either. It has some nice features like changing priority of websites returned in results (including outright blocking them), focusing the search on forums and "small web" sites (called lenses.. you can also create your own), DuckDuckGo style !bang commands etc. I was just going to try it for a month, but have stayed with it for 2 months now. Since search is so central to my internet experience, I don't mind paying a bit for a better experience.

I won't post the name here, as I don't want to be spammy. If you are interested, send me a DM and I'll share the name. You can get a trial membership to test it out for free. Just to be clear, I'm not involved with this company in any way.

ExpressVPN has been around since 2009 and looks pretty good. They claim not to keep logs of your connections. Their software also supports a kill switch.

Please make sure to test your VPN for leaks before attempting to connect to X over VPN (just search for 'VPN Leak Test'). A misconfigured VPN can leak exposing your real IP address.

Also, make sure your VPN software supports a "kill switch". A kill switch will stop all network traffic should the VPN connection fail (which they sometimes do). If the VPN fails without a kill switch while accessing X, you could be unknowingly hammering on the firewall that's blocking X and your real IP address will be logged. Here are some tips on how to test that your kill switch is working.

You also need to be sure that the VPN company you are using won't fold under legal pressure from Voldemort. If they keep logs, there is a risk that they could turn them over if threatened with legal action.

Not trying to scare anyone away from using a VPN.. just understand the risks. I'm concerned that a lot of people in Brazil with little knowledge about VPNs will install a cheap/free VPN and think they are protected. Voldemort will be looking to make an example of anyone he can catch.

This is awesome. Harris/Walz is falling apart. Lies, AI crowds, stolen valor, horse jizz. Now Biden/Harris are trying to throw each other under the bus while openly admitting responsibility to the current state of the country/world. All of this is happening while rumors are stirring of Dr. Demento possibly re-entering the race at the convention. kek! Will Biden come out and admit that he didn't write the letter? Will someone go down for treason? What a clusterfuck, and it's glorious! Whoever put this script together is a genius.

I checked for an update 4hrs later (6:30am Berlin time). Still only 3 military aircraft over Europe:

2 x Beech Super King Air twin props. Callsigns: DUKE29, DUKE60

1 x Gulfstream 5 business jet. Callsign: SPAR90

All 3 are American.

Well that was thoughtful. They're freeing up server resources for the rest of us and allowing folks to discuss without their incessant bitching, moaning and lying. A very kind gesture.

This has to be comms. Check this quote:

The autopilot is hooked to the elevator pitch trim servo, which moves a tiny tab that controls pitch — especially at high speeds, he said. That tab can have an “absolutely huge” effect on the plane’s position. Gryder likened it to the power of the nation’s top executive.

“It’s amazing to me that the president of the United States can have that much power, but he does,” he said. Once the plane starts to break apart, “you’re done,” he said. There’s no way to reverse the inevitable crash at that point. The fall would have unfolded over about two violent minutes, and Gryder said it’s his opinion everyone on board would have been alive to experience it until impact.

I'm not a fan of subscriptions, but I'm currently enjoying Kagi search. They don't make any money with advertising.. only from subscriptions. Consequently, their results are really clean/unbiased and I usually find what I'm looking for without a lot of scrolling though crap. If you search a lot like me, it may be worth trying. It has some great features like "lenses" which are great for limiting searches to forums or specific groups of websites. It also includes a private AI which doesn't appear to be woke (I asked about the Trump assassination attempt and it provided unbiased up to date info).

I'm not affiliated with them in any way and only mention it as an option for those who are tired of shitty search engines. Is it worth $10/month? For me it is. I'm searching constantly and it's saved me a lot of time and frustration.

He's playing you.

He keeps posting these stupid polls because every single time he gets 100's of thousands of folks visiting his post and engaging with it.. votes, comments, re-tweets..

He doesn't give a shit about the results. He does give a shit about all the engagement his account is getting and the sweet $$$ he's going to earn from X.

How long can a robot go before it needs to be recharged? They're dangerous for a couple of hours, then they need to find a USB port. lol

For those considering switching, but don't want to outright nuke their Windows installation, there are a couple of options to try it out while keeping Windows around which isn't a bad idea when your learning.

  1. Install VirtualBox which is free software that can create virtual machines which you can run Linux in. There are loads of videos on Youtube showing how to set it up and install Linux. This is a great option to play around with Linux and get comfortable with it. Don't expect to run your games in a virtual machine though.. it can be done if you have two graphics cards, but it's complex to setup.

  2. Another option is to look into dual-booting windows and Linux. If you have lots of disk space, you can resize the windows partition using the disk management utility and install Linux into the freed up space. When you start your computer, you will get a boot menu from which you can choose windows or Linux. Again, as much as Youtube sucks, there are loads of video tutorials which will show you how to do this step by step.

I don't think this will affect the average home user. It's an issue with security software used by big corporations.

The big issue with this, is that it is causing a 'blue screen of death'. Many systems are configured to automatically reboot when a BSOD happens, so they just end up in a loop. Either way, they can't be reached over the network to be fixed en mass. Someone is going to have to visit each physical machine to reboot into recovery mode to delete the necessary files. Slow going for sure.
