Within the last 10 years, we have basically watched corporations take one of the greatest innovations of all time, drag it out into the street, and skin it alive in front of everybody. Then they wear it's skin and act as thought everything is normal, just expecting us all to go along with it.
I know for myself at least, this really got me looking at a lot of other fundamental assumptions I've made about our society, and questioning if there were any rational foundations for them. For anyone else who's a gamer, you've also been witness to the entire industry refusing to budge an inch on their politically motivated garbage, despite the fact that it keeps running their companies into the ground at mach speed, destroying their arguments that they're just responding to market forces.
What really trips me out is how strong the parallels are between Greek mythology and how we interact with computers: taking on an avatar to descend from heaven into the mortal realms, to play with the mortals for their own pleasure. It's got me wondering if our entire society was built the very same way that we're seeing these predatory corporations buy out and wear the carcasses of once-good companies.
I think most importantly, it's made me well aware that the overwhelming majority of people in the real world are absolutely nothing like the "ideal consumer" models constantly being pushed by all media industries.
Trying to figure out what to believe online, when there is so much information being thrown at you all day long, can be a significant challenge. One of the simplest techniques that anyone can employ to easily discredit a huge amount of misinformation is simply checking for a primary source. You don't even have to understand the sources to benefit from checking for them, as a very large percentage of misinformation is completely unsourced.
The illusion that is being cast to confuse and confound us is paper thin, and it is actually quite shocking just how quickly it falls apart with the simplest of investigations.
As always, remember that the Internet was designed to facilitate propaganda from the ground up. Stay safe, stay sane, and don't be ashamed if you feel the need to unplug and relax if you're getting overwhelmed. You aren't in this alone, and others will carry the torch until you're ready to get back in the fight!
I haven't been able to access the site for about a day now. Is it down for anyone else? Anyone have a solution?

Looks like there was an issue with DDoS Guard which Vanwanet uses for DDoS protection.
