We live in the Shuswap as well - right along the TransCanada highway and the rail line. Our SIL works for CP. Trains are running, and there’s been a huge increase in transport trucks since the fire. They are keeping things moving via a detour of the bridge in Lytton, but it will likely increase costs and time significantly. They’re trying to blame the fire on the railways - it is inevitable that wheels on rails produce sparks and sometimes fires. But that’s not an unknown and we’ve noticed locally that there is a wide berth of limestone or lava rock (or other inflammable substance) along either side of the tracks. This is all railway owned land along the tracks and they maintain it (our SIL did that as well for 3 yrs). Anyway, they may be trying to cripple the rail lines with lawsuits, or it’s simply a false flag to turn attention away from some other cause. Someone else suggested a fire set in a church there because of the info coming out about the past abuse/deaths of so many Indigenous children. Now this new wrinkle. Seems a lot of attention being focused on this tiny little town of only about 1,000 people. (Also, re: the fires. There had been a fire/fires burning up slope of Lytton for days and temperatures hit record highs the day before the fire. All you need is a bit of wind to kick up and off it goes. Tragic, but still could have been just natural cause.)
