They were "somehow allowed to be made" because it's fiction. Not unlike Disney saying Palpatine resurrected through a clone, or showing that cars can talk ("Cars"), or showing walking action figures that speak and crack jokes (Toy Story). It's fiction my man.

Stranger Things and Fringe and Event Horizon showcase all those things you listed because these are all tropes in their genre, and these shows are tailor made for audiences that take interest in that genre. Alternate dimensions, time travel, mind control, classified government shit, these are all tried-and-true tropes that keep coming back time and time again because audiences are entertained by it. Light sci-fi, reality bending stuff, government conspiracy, etc, are borderline cliches actually.

It's actually funny that some of us in this community decry the hollywood brainwashing and whatnot, and then get a boner over hollywood-brand cliches that are actually made just for them - they're the target audience of this product they're simultaneously slurping on and also raging against lmfao
