I like that scene, but I suspect in real life when faced with bullets flying, it's a bit harder to escape the fear than by simply realizing one is already dead.

Truth is I think most people go forward into battle despite being scared shitless out of their mind.

I asked my father who drive a landing craft in the pacific islands invasion what made the men get off of the boats and march up the beach with bullets flying, and men falling around them, and his simple answer was, "that's all they could do"

I have no idea how I would react in battle. I'd like to think I would do my duty. But one think I do know from reading various accounts, is one never knows until one faces battle.

Some of the seemingly toughest guys aboard the USS Indianapolis were the first to fall apart. Any some other then never boasted, never got riled, never puffed themselves up, meek, and mild, they were the true tough guys when it got down to it.
