Off topic a bit, but curricula should include a couple of courses on 'life management', including basic banking skills (saving, budgeting, balancing checkbook, how to apply for a loan), how to apply for a job, how to ask for a raise/promotion, how to read a basic contract (for cell phones, buying a car at the 'buy here pay here' place), how to fill out a basic form/application for 'whatever', how to ask the right questions at a service provider (at the Dr, mechanic, using tradespeople, etc.) Basic laws re marriage, even?(spez: Add 'taxes' state, local federal, and Civics - how the government works).

Kids don't always get that at home, especially if the parent(s) aren't in positions to have used these skills, successfully, themselves. This is partially why government dependence is multi-generational. "Running low on cash? Have another baby. Get it declared disabled."

And, lastly, while I'm on my soapbox... I know that all families cannot afford to have their kids participate in sports, but in my observation, team sports are a big help in learning how to function as a team player in the workplace. Not necessary for some but helpful in development and learning to 'share'.
