A dirty bomb could make NYC uninhabitable for 25,000 years.

Don't tell the folks living in Hiroshima and Nagasaki ;)

Fallout radiation decays relatively quickly with time. Most areas become fairly safe for travel and decontamination after three to five weeks.

Dirty bombs emit many times less radiation than an actual nuclear warhead. In any event it's a short time, weeks, not eons

OMFG why'd he use wikipedia?!?!? - I don't have wikiphobia, a term I just invented for this sentence to describe irrational aversion to the site. It's fine for basic stuff like this and sports stats, movie data, etc., where there's no left-wing political bias ruining the reliability. Left-wing bias would skew this particular result HIGHER, toward multiple YEARS, not a few weeks.

For the survivors of a nuclear war, this lingering radiation hazard could represent a grave threat for as long as 1 to 5 years after the attack.
