Herbert / Cox got 45% of the vote at the GOP convention in 2016 and had to go to primary. Where they ended up with 72% of the vote.

Utah is full of whacky results like that. What happens at convention is way out of kilter with what subsequently happens with voters at large.

Happened with Romney / Kennedy in 2018. With Andrew Badger's race this year.

This RINO article blames the GOP delegates for being "out of touch" with voters.

I think it's more the other way around, but delegates probably need to do a better job reaching out voters and explaining why convention turned out the way it did.

So there may be a little of that. And a lot of vote tampering.
