I think people need to actually read the report for themselves, instead of believing everything others tell them, before getting too worked up over this.

It doesn't decriminalize all sexual activity. It doesn't decriminalize sex between children and adults.

It does suggest that consensual sex between adolescents be decriminalized. It also recommends that the age of consent be the same for both males and females.

Before you get a bug up your butt because I committed the high crime of fact checking (by reading it myself) before forming an opinion on something, please at least go read it for yourself.

I know reading long, dull reports isn't as fun as getting outraged about something, but it's the reasonable thing to do.

Edited to add:

If you do choose to go read the report yourself (yay, you!), notice that children, adolescents, and adults are defined by their ages. I believe they (the UN)define children as under 10. Adolescents as 10-19, and adults as 19 and older.

So when it says consensual sex of adolescents, it means both parties are adolescents. Not an adolescent and a child or an adolescent and an adult.

The only time adults are addressed is in the part about sex work. And none of it recommends that all sex is decriminalized. Or that sex between an adult and child, or adult and adolescent, or adolescents and children be decriminalized.

I think the issue at hand is people who either have poor reading comprehension interpreting things incorrectly, or people with an agenda to push to deliberately spread misinformation.

Also, do not take this to mean I approve of anything they recommend. I simply want people to not run around spending false information. Nothing good comes of it.
