Two, by attacking the target (Trump) they very powerfully divert the audience from asking about them, in the context of those things. Intellectual Deflection.

It's a double whammy. It's why the most dishonest person will stand up and accuse with great ferocity and feigned sincerity anyone who points out what they are actually doing. ("Those who scream the loudest...." Q) Shock factor to hide (via emotional manipulation) their own guilt.
