Now they want to establish "rules" for whether or not the Supernatural is available in other flavors?
Who is to say that other people's Supernatural beliefs are even more valid than the Vatican's? Or that there can't be multiple levels of Supernatural happening at the same time... which are just not visible to non-believers?
In my opinion, the Vatican can shove it! Supernatural forces are what they are... even if the Vatican declares otherwise.

It has less to do with what they want people to believe and more to do with whether or not it's any of their business.
They drew a line in the sand saying "demons? - that's our business. Jinn? not our business."
