I wonder what the cost would be to tax payers if all of these women actually had the babies...
What kind of women are getting abortions? What kind of children would they raise? How would people who are anti-abortion treat those women and their children? Who would care for them? Offer post partum support? Child care? Housing?
Do we care for children and mothers? Or do we only care about unborn fetuses?
There is a major disconnect amongst the anti-abortion crowd. People seem to forget that most of the women seeking abortions are alone, scared, unable to imagine a world in which they can provide a child with a healthy life. For most, it's not an easy decision and many are plagued with guilt and sadness for years afterwards.
If we want women to stop having abortions, then we need to create a world in which those women and their children are supported.
I agree that there are a lot of considerations that need to be evaluated for the woman and their baby's lifetime security.
The foster care system is broken and not always the best decision. There are a lot of couples that are having difficulties in having a child but how do you ensure that the child will be placed in a good home and not abused?
My biggest concern is that for a lot of women it seems to be a form of birth control when there are other options to prevent pregnancy rather than having to face going through an abortion.
I have known some women that had an abortion and they do live with guilt and depression.
Yes I have definitely known women that have used it as birth control. I would support something where if a woman has had more than 2 abortions she is sterilized. Haha... i know that wouldn't go over well.
Most women I know though have lived with guilt and shame for decades after having an abortion.
Tha fostercare system, like you said, is broken and many children in foster care end up abused (sexually and otherwise) and once they are 18 left with nothing.
Adoption can be a good route for those who will have support during the pregnancy, but for many women if they had that kind of support they would probably just keep the child.
I think we have to acknowledge that in addition to the breakdown of traditional family values, we've lost a larger sense of community that's also vital for humans to really thrive. Many marriages would likely stay together if the couple/family had a larger support network.
I think this breakdown in societal values and support systems has been a great contributor to the rise in addiction, abuse, promiscuity, as well the reason why young people are so eager to "identify" as something (major driver for the LGBT crowd, kids just looking for a place to belong)
When individuals are valued and supported by their communities they make much better and more sound choices all around.
