Ridiculous idea! We now have a tax per gallon, so the more you drive, the more you pay for gas. Cars that are more fuel efficient pay less tax as they use less gas. All this to push people towards more efficient vehicles, like electric vehicles. If they charge per mile, people will demand that the gas tax be eliminated. It just doesn’t make sense. A better idea would be eliminate gas tax and mileage tax and have people pay their road use thru tolls, the more you drive, the more tolls you pay. This equalizes the cost for everyone and people won’t complain about electric cars not paying for road use. Think!
Be sure to tell Computershare that you want book shares and not plan shares. Book insures that they are exclusively in your name and they cannot be used by Computershare to help them with balancing their purchases and sales. I also worked for IBM for 23 years. The boss asked at a company picnic if anyone was leaving any time soon, I told him I had about 1 more year left, and then I’d retire. Anyway, he had to cut someone and I was chosen. It was about 6 months before I wanted, but, it was ok. He was decent and let me get paid as long as he could and actually gave me days off until that date. So, never tell your boss if you intend to retire or quit ahead of time.
You can get a decent broker, I have Fidelity, or you can buy direct from Computershare. All shares should be directly registered in your name. Tell them you want to directly register the stock in book form. If you go thru a broker, they have to be transferred to Computershare to DRS or direct register them.
