Boeing sabotage Here are some notable cases:
Cutting Wires on 737s: In 2001, Boeing inspectors found single wires cut on two 737s during final construction. The damage was discovered in the course of routine production testing and was classified as “suspicious wire damage.” The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) launched an investigation into possible sabotage inside the company’s Renton, Washington, factory.
Sabotage at Boeing Plant: In 2001, Boeing and federal authorities investigated what was described as apparently intentional damage done to wiring on 10 jets during assembly. The damage was found in different parts of the plane and occurred during different phases of assembly.
Airline Mechanic Sabotage: In 2020, a former American Airlines mechanic was accused of sabotaging a Boeing 737-800 at Miami International Airport. The mechanic, Abdul-Majeed Marouf Ahmed Alani, admitted to tampering with the plane, forcing it to be grounded before takeoff. The motive was reportedly related to an impasse over a union contract.
Embraer-Boeing Merger Sabotage: In 2020, Embraer accused Boeing of deliberately wrecking the proposed tie-up between the two aircraft manufacturers. Embraer launched a damages claim over the collapsed deal.
