In 1988,89, my sophomore English teacher had us read 1984 and then find parallels to what we were seeing in present society. There were a few things I remember from this assignment. One was the cameras being put up everywhere for surveillance. While, I could understand businesses wanting to secure property, it was really unnerving. It was such an important book and it made me aware to think twice about things being pushed. Like depression and anxiety pills. Or when my son was in 3rd grade and they wanted me to put him on ADD meds. He was a typical 8/9 year old boy.
It is sad that this book has been pulled from most schools and they are pushing pure garbage instead.
