Myocarditis is not necessarily "a literal death sentence", and it can be mild or moderate or severe. Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle, and the severity depends on how much of the heart is affected, how long it persists, etc. I had a viral infection of the heart muscle 11 years ago that caused myocarditis and a heart attack, but even though blood tests showed markers of heart damage, every available imaging test at the time showed no detectable damage to my heart. I have had no ill effects over the years, and once the viral infection cleared up (courtesy of my immune system), the inflammation (myocarditis) of the heart muscle gradually went away and the heart returned to normal. It only took a few days to recover.
Myocarditis CAN be a death sentence if it's severe enough, but it is not ALWAYS a death sentence. Definitely not something you want to have happen to you, since it's like playing russian roulette, but many people do recover from it with no lasting effects if they're lucky like I was.
