🎵 I LIKE TRAINS! 🎵
Best childhood memory I have was going to the train station in the small town I grew up in, with my parents, and we would compete to see who can walk on the tracks longest. We would hear the rumble of the train from miles away and scamper off the tracks. My dad would put a coin on the track and I look forward to the squashed coin.
One of my close friend's dad used to work in the railway, and so they had they home (quarters) right next to the tracks and sometimes we go and play there.
My grand-dad was a retired railway inspector, and everyt ime we travel in trains, he would take me to the control room, chat with the people there while I watched all the lights showing where different nearby trains are. If he was in a good mood, he would chat with the engineer and let me go into the engine to look around.
These were the days you had to choose your seat wisely to avoid pieces of coal hitting into your eyes, while riding on the steam engine trains.
When I moved into my house, I was unaware a train track goes behind it (not directly, there's a bit of open space/park/ball fields then the tracks) until the afternoon I moved in - whoops.
Fortunately I think they're pretty cool myself, and the whistle noise isn't too bad (they also fairly recently changed the whistles so they don't sort of rattle the place so much anymore), so I'd rather have them than not. One thing these ones haul which sucks from a "these are bullshit" standpoint but is impressive from a cargo standpoint is huge blades for windmills, which are several cars long of course.
I used to live right on a train track by about 100 ft. The rumble as they went by would put me into sleep paralysis because of the frequency or something. First couple of times it happened were terrifying, now I kinda miss that experience. Lol
Jake: How often does the train go by?
Elwood: So often you don't even notice it.
