Well, I generally agree, NPCs occupy the vast middle. But - regarding the "extremist" ends, authoritarian is ONE end (left). Right has been mislabeled - hence creating a false dichotomy - fascism vs communism. Right is actually RIGHTS/freedom etc. Which is the extreme we must embrace.
I know it's tempting to frame it like the right end of the spectrum is somehow not as extreme as the left, but that's not how it works. Either side has an extreme faction. As long as either side believes in a "by any means necessary" thinking, or a belief in coercive controls for a people's own good, then they are dangerous and will invariably become authoritarian. For our own good.
At the moment there are people that are afraid to point this out, admit it, or to try and discuss what's to be done about it. But they are surrounded by paranoid eyes that don't dare be caught outside the narrative.
Maybe we are playing a neat game.
Ok. Yes it's extremely important we hold our rights and freedoms to be extremely important. Just truly, extremely important. Absolutely. Without question.
Also, it is terrible to be a political extremist.
OK, let's have only some rights, or half of whatever rights we do have, keep only some of our money, after all it's best to help those in need, and it certainly shouldn't be up to you to decide who you want to help because that wouldn't be unfair, and clearly The Government in all its wisdom is best at allocating the help and setting up the help and nothing bad would ever come of a mixed economy, no sir. It certainly wouldn't ever go towards fascism instead of capitalism, so long as we remain non-extreme, and stay the middle course.
You are the one playing "neat" games. If we aren't extreme about this stuff, the other side wins. It's. That. Simple.
Your username is the opposite of reality, btw, at least by any evidence I've seen in this discussion, such as it is.

As for centrism? This quote (also from her) sums up the problem quite succinctly:
"In any compromise between food and poison, it is only death that can win. In any compromise between good and evil, it is only evil that can profit."

Please reread my comment. However many times it takes.
We MUST BE extremists. For freedom, rights, capitalism.
