Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an intergral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on it's evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I'd say this counts as decent General randomass chitchat. People asking about health stuff/diet stuff etc is pretty common.
Now, the hyperlink feature...there's a couple things there. Let's say I want to link to this page about ED-209 (because this just happens to be the tab open in my other browser window).
OK so notice how when you hit the link button, then paste your link, you get something like
enter text or
[enter text] (https://robocop.fandom.com/wiki/ED-209)? (the difference is an extra space btw)
So that "enter text" part, you can put something helpful, like "ED-209 wiki" and behold:
ED-209 wiki
More useful in a sentence about ED-209 than if just standalone link probably, but there you go.
Oh and if you already have text typed, and just highlight it THEN click the link button, guess what, that text is used and placed within the "enter text" location.
Happy linking!
(Oh and this feature is particularly useful with things like videos that just have an ID so you have no idea what it actually is without some link text.)
Honestly sometimes I don't understand why a comment like this is downvoted. Maybe because you told the truth. I appreciate your critiquing on my link post. I posted in the general chat few weeks asking what I was doing wrong. People were kind and basically sad it wasn't a problem. I encourage anyone to correct me as long they are nice about it, Thanks fren
Heh, none of this was meant as "critique" actually - first I said your comment was fine. Now, then, I guess leading in next with "there's a couple things there" coulda been better phrased - I meant it more like "I've seen this a couple times lately here and there so why not do a bit of a tutorial" - it's not "wrong" to not use the feature/use it fully but maybe you (or others that don't know how it works) now might find it useful going forward.
As for the downpoot, who knows, could be the tone mentioned above, could be personal, could be they thought your comment thread was out of place in General so they think I'm an idiot on that part of it ;)
I'm glad you said something though, and I hope the above clarification is helpful!
I probably could've used a different word than critique. I do this a lot maybe because I have trouble typing what I'm thinking.
I sincerely appreciate you telling me how to do the link/text block. I saw one of my post today & was able to correct it. It's irritated me that I couldn't get it right. Thanks fren
Right on, have a great day!
