Where are you getting this info? A quick search I'm not seeing numbers generally that high, other than one result higher but for people in peak-earning years (like 45-55).
Also, MEDIAN isn't a terribly helpful statistic. It's just the mid-point - clearly there are way more people below than above it.
It's really the only data to go off of. $15 x 2,000 = $30,000 PRE-THEFT. I mean tax. Do the math. Something is truthfully fucked up if people are working full time and aren't able to thrive. And when people barely get by how in the world does any business expect the best effort out of their employees? They don't - as much as they gripe and moan about high turnover, they secretly love it and they need it to prosper by keeping their payroll as low as possible.
