Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I've crashed a few times though it's been awhile. It's VERY rare - and this one was due to total misunderstanding of the traction situation (management thereof of course being key on a single-track vehicle). The one most like this one was a "fail to unclip" in my driveway a few years back - but no results like THIS from it! Usually on softer surfaces. I was only going 5 mph or so....
Hope you're OK. I would listen to Presto to ease your pain.
Dang. Guess my two friends are just unlucky. Thanks for clarifying, heal up!
No, I might have got really lucky (edit: I was just agreeing with you - I've crashed before, rode all over as a kid no helmet etc never this kind of problem). Low speed even if hard impact - no idea if/how close I came to breaking anything (elbow took the harder hit, I didn't think much of the hip till the bruise showed up, then went to town spreading, then I started googling shit). 40 MPH downhill wreck on a bicycle, I'd fear a lot more than same speed crash on a motorcycle (because motorcycle gear, which I ALWAYS ride with, has padding and such)(though mine can use better armor - and this crash has me thinking such is now mandatory)(CE rated vs barely-armor foam pads). Road rash is no joke* and that's just for starters.
*I shudder anytime I see young sportbike types with hot chick wearing almost nothing but a helmet perched on the back. The poor girls have NO idea how badly this could go if they slid down the road.
Tons of insight here, and I don't have much to reply, but wanted to let you know I saw it, read it, and enjoyed it. I usually catch GAW on short breaks between hectic periods. Lol.
Anyway, yes to all of that stuff. Something that completely went over my head, although I still never remember crashing, is the fact I was never going anywhere near 40mph on my 10 speed as a kid. No where even close. I just had kind of a "wow moment" and got some extra empathy for my friends' crashes.
Also, one of my very few fetishes, and one I delight in pointing out to my wife, is hot chicks on the back of motorcycles. I'm hoping you didn't ruin that for me. 😅✌️
Edit: tagging you so you see it because I think I've seen you say you check your inbox (I do not, kek). Daily chat ironically showing it's limitations. 🤔 u/pepesee
LOL I wonder who downpooted this.
Actually didn't mean to downvote that one, downfall of touch screen phone and being on the go. If you notice I haven't downvoted any of your comments.
