Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
The funny thing is I was oblivious to the insipid Aqua original until I got this comp (because it was the best place I could find this brilliant re-working) and played it for someone and they were like holy shit?!
Edit: I too ignored the BTM series, I've heard a couple others are good but I forget which ones - this one is cool because it's not even all electronic (1 or 2 tracks are not), or mixed, it's just tunes LX likes. I got a big kick out of him including Polynomial C on it as that's one of the very first 12" I ever got, myself, and I wondered for years if LX liked AT or not at all or what.
Edit 2: Check out the Juno Reactor one in that playlist as well - it's quality (and LX as well). And ironically the album it's on isn't all that appealing vs their earlier stuff IMO - so I forgot I already had this track LOL.
Thanks mate, glad I checked back in with the daily loose ends. You blessed me with 3 hot links, and 4 if I remember to grab the Juno Ractor (I probably will!). I appreciate you dropping these more than you'll probably ever know. 😁
Interesting regarding LX vs AT and how it connects personally to you and your musical journey. Love that stuff. I'd figure as contemporaries they'd obviously been aware of, and influencing, each other. Based on nothing aside from what little I know of their personalities, and no formal reports on the subject at all, I'd guess they either hated each or were thick as thieves. I'd put my money on the former. 😅🤖
Mainly there is not a lot of AT influence in Orb stuff. Like they are apples and tangerines. Orb can get very hard indeed but not in the same way. So there's no indication either way if LX liked AT's stuff or not. So getting confirmation through this many years later that LX got into it like this was a nice alignment.
Juno Reactor - just get this BTM and you've got the important track. Maybe check out the JR album/other tracks - if you like them, OK great! - before getting the whole album on the basis of this one. Like I say, this one is more an Orb track than a JR one.
Edit: I used to like JR a LOT more. I thought "Beyond the Infinite" was amazing - at the time - but most of that album, now, I'm like what/how did I like this??? Vs Total Eclipse whose "Violent Relaxation" was the peak then and still is today, IMO. What an album. I don't even get into Goa anymore really but I still acknowledge the quality.
