Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.

Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Make America Great Again
Most things we buy today don’t last for a year. Heck some clothes barely last a year. Maybe we need a thread of American made products. This came to mind because I just got in bed and put my head on pillow case I had a little kid. If I got these sheets at five years old they are fifty one years old. I don’t have the sheets just the pillow cases. Knowing my mom she probably sewed the sheets into something. They are very 70s vibe with big daisies pink shades, white & yellow. They have been used my entire life by me and then my daughter now back to me. I’ll pass them on when the gbaby is older. Last post today I promise. Been busy all weekend and I’m pooped! Lots house work
I hear ya sister. Taking the winter to work on clutter, I have so much I held on to because "this will be useful", like maybe I can make something out of it, etc, and I am paying for it now because I know I do not have the time or energy. I am the get down on hands and knees with a scrub brush kind of cleaner, and it crippled me for a week. Once the clutter is gone, though, I swear I can feel the house breathing better. I never thought of myself as a hoarder, but taking inventory, I would say I have a mild case of it. I would save things like yogurt containers, cottage cheese containers, little plastic empty pill bottles, to re purpose. It gets out of hand so I bagged up all that stuff and sent it to the recycling man, had to pay for it too, and went ahead and bought nice glass containers with lids in all sizes, purchased some clothing totes and culling clothing I have not worn in at least 10 years. Sometimes I think I should just wear a uniform for housework, and put away clothing for when I go out into civilization.
Fren, I feel you. I don’t waste much of anything. Leftovers go on the dog plates the next morning. I went to glass and stainless steel about four or five years ago. We have to drive 45 miles to recycle plastic. I don’t do it. They want it washed and dry, etc. It drives me secretly nuts that just about every package for everything is plastic. I just threw out about 40 prescription bottles. I was going to use them to store things but I never get far enough to organize. It was actually liberating to throw them out! So, I’m trying to keep that frame of mind as I go through the house. It’s winter and I’m hurting a lot so I don’t get as much done as I’d like to. I will persevere, as will you!
Producing shoddy stuff is such a waste - and they have the cheek to talk about sustainability and being green. Major scam.
It's fucking annoying.
Example: polo shirts. For years (and this was before Target went down the toilet so admittedly it would be irrelevant now) I got the "Merona" brand. They were like 10 bucks for a long time, then maybe 12 then 14. Still absolutely just fine, just as good quality/thickness/longevity (if not better, for instance I tried J. Crew once and those actually didn't last - and this was way back when I still shopped there so long before THEY went to shit - it was a real oddity in fact but I digress, as name brands, alligators etc)(Greekish there probably should be a comma there at least but there isn't so I hope it hurts)(edit: this was before the last part of the sentence, I mean more in the middle bit of the whole thing but I'll gladly keep adding on to the pile I can tell you that). Sooo, first they got thinner - and I think this was when they hit 14 bucks - uh oh. But still pretty good. I still have 2 like this.
THEN they rebranded totally (at least they did this, they quit trying to pass off this as the same thing - kind of a shock there) and suddenly it was like they were made of lint. OK fine done with them, where else to get. Well, turns out EVERY place did the same damn thing. Kept at the price point which meant not even worth buying anymore. JC Penney, Kohl's, etc, all of them just absolutely forget it. Fortunately I work from home now and only wear one of these occasionally so the old Target ones are still going...maybe by the time I need more there'll be an ok alternative again.... (Edit: I haven't checked as I won't pay 60 let alone 80 or whatever they are now for Izod etc but I would not bet they are any better quality.)
Bottom line and one thing's for sure, if companies would just quit with shrinkflation (both in terms of quantity and quality) perhaps people would have noticed the inflation issue a lot sooner. (And, ironically, they tried to disguise this stuff for some time - and were getting away with it with just sort of griping etc as it was gradual enough - but eventually the chickens had to come home to roost so we're getting the inevitable higher prices now, but annoyingly enough on the lower-quality/smaller products.)
Agreed. T-shirts too
Anything. Like I've worn Lee Dungarees carpenter jeans for their price, durability, and practicality (generous phone pocket) for a LONG time. I still do but the denim got thinner and part-poly. Nothing you can fucking do (I've found Carhartt to be way overrated - I got a couple pairs to evaluate and they developed holes in the pocket area - like where Swiss army knife lives - alarmingly quickly - and again this was a couple eval pairs purchased years ago so presumably before THEY went to shit?)....
Mypillow has a storefront for other USA-made products
American made products sold @ PublicSquare.com or PublicSq.com. Also there is Mammoth Nation. The Right aka Maga are trying to promote a parallel shopping place for us where only American made products are sold, thus helping to get us away from Amazon and others and to promote more products other than Made in China. This should boost our economy and help keep Mom and Pop businesses booming.
Holy moly, you gave birth!
Insufferable. You are truly insufferable. When you make comments here, your main mission is to criticize people. Why? Why do you think you’re so much better than everyone else, that you need to come behind people’s comments to denigrate them? Do you really have nothing better to do? How sad is that?
For the record… and if you haven’t figured this out already, nobody cares what you think about their grammar.
Please cease and desist from being such a dick all the time. Geezzz!
Thanks for having my back. I don’t even respond on keyboard trolls 🧌 It takes a very lonely shallow person to correct peoples mistakes. I was dog tired and really missed everyone (almost everyone). So popped in before closing my eyes. I read typos all the time and it’s pretty easy to figure out what the are saying. Yet, some just can’t keep scrolling!
