Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
It's always been Alex Paterson + whoever he wants to work with so by no means do I like all their stuff, but yes I'd prefer it that way (I am less into the period of just him and Thomas Felhmann, where TF's minimal techno kind of took over, or the current lineup of him and Michael Rendall (sp?) - what they are doing now just doesn't quite grab me though some are more into it than anything in years. I'd say there's a parallel - it's like they're doing some old things but with new sound just like Rush ended up with and it doesn't work in the same way, for me at least). (Live is a different story, basically Orb live is not to be missed no matter what.)
You know I loved reading this thread. 😃
Pomme Fritz was my good friend's "album", back when we were kids and couldn't afford to own everything individually. I vaguely remember him pointing out some interesting vocal samples, but not more beyond that. Need to shore up my Orb discography as I haven't updated it in over a decade. Then, probably listen to everything more as well.
Except U.F.Orb. I wore that sucker OUT. The title track is one of my favorite dance tracks, period.
Friends had got "Terrarvm" when it came out and I didn't even know it was out. I was over there and they put it on (under appropriate smoky circumstances of course) and I was like wait a minute, this is on the live one but NOT that version. And of course it goes from there - when Oxbow Lakes came on it's like OH MY COW!!!
Edit: I eventually scored OT on vinyl, finally, without ridiculous outlay even. I ran across a copy of the promo 2x12 at Amoeba on Haight. It was like 20 bucks! The promo version does, unfortunately, not have the album art, but it does have slightly different/longer versions of 2 or 3 tracks (as it turns out).
