The chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, Ronna McDaniel, has told former President Donald J. Trump she is planning to step down shortly after the South Carolina primary on Feb. 24, according to two people familiar with the plans.
Mr. Trump is then likely to promote the chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, Michael Whatley, as her replacement, according to several people familiar with the discussions.
Originally from Watauga County, North Carolina, Michael Whatley serves as the Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party and the General Counsel for the Republican National Committee.
Prior to his service with the Republican Party, Chairman Whatley served as a federal law clerk, senior official in the George W. Bush Administration and as the Chief of Staff for US Senator Elizabeth Dole, R-NC. He also served as a Senior Advisor to the Bush-Cheney Campaign, Florida Recount and Transition Teams, as well as the Trump-Pence Campaign and Transition Teams.
Whatley earned a History degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Masters in Religion from Wake Forest University before graduating from the University of Notre Dame with both a law degree and Masters in Theology.

Edit: When I heard it was a guy from North Carolina, I first thought it was this guy, Mark Robinson, and I was very excited!

Anyone have a read on Michael Whatley?
I live in NC from what I have seen of Whatley heβs a good guy. He did a lot here in NC to help Trump win the state in 2016 and 2020.
He better be a head fake.
