If you think about it, it's obvious that the Fall of Man described in scripture had multiple consequences, and that one of those is ignorance. Who is God? Why were we created? What is the nature of the universe? How do spirit and flesh exist together?
History can be viewed from the perspective of overcoming the ignorance that the corruption of man brought about.
Although our human intellectual understanding has plumbed almost to the roots the material world and material existence, we are still suffering from massive ignorance regarding the spiritual world and spiritual existance.
By which I mean, we know so much about the principles and 'laws' that govern physics, chemistry, biology, etc, but as a people, we are still very much in the dark regarding what principles and laws govern our spiritual aspect and the spiritual dimension in which it operates.
Jesus indicated that there were MANY things he had to teach his disciples, but their weren't ready, and could not understand. By and large, we're still engaged at the same level, even 2000 years later.
This ignorance of the relationship between the spirit and the flesh that serves EVIL. If people understood that terminating their material body (vessel) does nothing but remove their ability to grow, develop and mature their spirit, they would not think of the material death as a way out.
E.g. If you are living in hell in your heart and spirit, nothing changes when your body is gone. You are still you.
If its true that the spirit and the heart grow in the soil that is the physical body (flesh) over the course of our physical lives, then all you are doing is destroying your God-given opportunity to grow and develop your heart.
