He is growing and hormones are at an all time high so being on a deficit and worrying about losing is silly when THIS is the time to build solid muscle and keep bone mass dense. Fat can be handled later and honestly for contact sports, it is better to have some fat and protect those organs.
Also, Long term it is not good to be a slave to "nutrition" and I would say the psychological benefits of a communal meal with friends far outweigh the "effects" of a small fry or some nuggets. Maybe give him some cash so he can invite his friends to a good local Chinese or Japanese place where they can eat some good meats and rice.
