This has been Colbert's schtick for the past 15 years -- degrading traditional America's suburban and heartland values, basically, white America -- to hoots and howls, peals of laughter, and sympathetic Amens from his metrosexual, Sanders-worshipping, New York audiences, dare I say diverse, so-called "cultural elite," the same who have presided over the decline of several once-great US cities. That's where the Sanders worshipping comes in.
Back a few years on Fox, Bill O'Reilly had Colbert on as a guest. Under Bill's questions, Colbert came as close to a confession as he ever will, when he said to the host, "Bill, you do what you gotta do." He wound up with the Night Show, so, something is working.
