reigning adj. Currently ruling or holding a position. v. Present participle of reign. adj. exercising power or authority

How is that a good catch ? Reigning is the correct word !!

Geekish thinks it should be REINING - which is totally wrong word !!

Should be "reining in", which means "to restrain or control something or someone".
