It's important that Trump appear to have no direct role in the military actions.
But if Trump has no direct role in the military actions, who is the one controlling them? I ask this question on two levels. 1) Who is truly in control, and 2) What is the ostensible explanation that would be given to the public? To explain my question, let's say the military arrests a bunch of politicians and does tribunals and people are executed. You say that Trump needs to appear distanced from that. So who is the public supposed to believe ordered it?
He has a sec Def we trust.
It's important that it not be him because they (the uninformed & corrupted ones) would accuse him of being a dictator. We know the truth but it would lead to a lot of problems we don't want.
