"Simulation" is just the culturally acceptable way to say "life is an illusion" in contemporary parlance. Aliens are just the culturally acceptable way to say "elves" or "fairies" in contemporary parlance. That which is just outside the box of cultural, linguistically defined reality (i.e. "virtual" reality). Super natural.
These are all just linguistic constructs. Life is what it is. Reality at some level is reality. Who knows what that is. The "illusion" lies, at least partly, in the insufficiency of language to fully describe reality.
