zoom in, Its SPUR71 and SPUR72 flying in formation
So ADSB data is just a ping sent from the aircraft at all times if powered on. It works on a device network on the ground, Anybody can see this data with the right receiver, you can make one with an SDR and raspberry PI. Knowing that there has to be a receiver, i would assume that SPUR71/72 are flying tightly enough that one may not be clearly being received by what ever is catching their signal. 30k feet + small antenna in the middle of nowhere might be the biggest issue.
As for the aircraft not moving on the east coast, the map may not be updating properly, try to refresh. If it has a speed but isnt moving its probably just the map.
Expect to see baby planes in the sky soon.
SPURS are DC10s from TRAVIS airbase. They're likely just harmless planes... like transport for brass.
They are Extenders, mid-air refuelers. They don't fly directly anywhere. Could have been fighters up there not showing on the map. Seeing two up there that close is a but odd, but these are up frequently lately
I don't know what the weather patterns or NOTAMS are in that area, but I guess we'll see if it goes up again.
Electronic counter measures. Can make one look like 10, or 10 look like 1.
