Picture was from last night/early morning when many mil planes seemed to stopped transponding and only a very few were.

Maybe. Aren't flights usually numbered in order for the day? Like flights 1000 for the day would 1000 and 1001 1002 and so on? Maybe it's per airline. Dad was a pilot and I seem to remember that.
