I am a registered civil engineer. Very happy to help. Swamps typically drained using gravity fed drainage tiles and channels and eventually feed to a stream or river. Enough larp here, I think the new garden of heroes will have a lot of the present day heroes with guys like Flynn, Pompeo, Admiral Rogers and others. There will br many who are beyond the public eye but performed behind the shadows and saved the world.
