Owls are supposedly known as a symbol of Wisdom...funny thing, owls brainspace is occupied by a very large ocular system making their brains smaller.

In the poem of that title, the caged bird sings in anger and hate when it is fettered--metaphorical in the poem I suppose, as there is no need to shackle it in a cage.
