Blame it on crazy Trump supporters, throw the country into chaos, et cetera. The last desperate play of the cabal to stop what is coming. But what if that's exactly what the white hats are looking for? Why has Trump been so obvious about the trap? To drive them to this last desperate play?

It would be the perfect reason for the military to step in and enact martial law. They arrest the killer, make sure he doesn't get Oswalded, and get him to talk. With the intel they have they don't even need him to actually talk, they can just say he did.
