"This includes, for example, a three-gun battery firing two of its guns with five-second intervals between rounds and one gun remaining at the ready in case of a misfire; such a battery would be used at an Armed Forces Full Honors Funeral, or for State Arrival Ceremony of a foreign dignitary at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery. A four-gun battery has its first three guns firing rounds at three-second intervals, with the fourth gun (again) at the ready in case of misfire."
But it doesn't say the purpose of a four-gun battery is different from the purpose of a three-gun battery. And also, this is Wikipedia without appropriate citations, not a reliable source of information at all!!
... and only two of them were actually used. Why were they firing in the cemetery? It looked like they were just fooling around in a driveway compared to the other 21 gun salutes.
If you look at the comments, a commenter further explains the role of each person:
Squad Sergeant: Squad Sergeant
Cannon Conductor: gives the order to fire to each cannon
Time Keeper: Makes sure each shot is fired 5 seconds apart
Shot Keeper: Counts each shot fired from 1-21, Notifies "Final Round" when counter is on 20
Radioman: Wears radio under jacket with earpiece, There is another radioman closer to the event / Funeral etc with another radio and earpiece and will notify the other to prepare and fire the first shot
That he's not president. Or he is, but they have determined him to be something else. Normally they will have 4 cannons with 3 firing and 1 as a backup. Biden had 3 cannons, with 2 firing at the really long intervals. Even if they couldn't fit one or there was another issue, they could have used all 3 to fire at 3s intervals, or even just 2.
Ceremonial military protocol is usually very set in stone
It's called a 4 Gunn Salute, 2 fire and 1 is spear (for miss fires), 2 fire 2 rounds at 5 second intervals (4 gun salute) which is for funerals and forging dignitaries on arrival.
I saw a wiki page for the 3rd Infintary, the unit web page for the unknow soldier, vet threads and ask to pedes who did time in honor gaurds and cerimonial units or search customs and tradions of gun salutes
The 3 cannons that Creepy got is only used for foreign dignitaries....
It should have been 4 cannons .... ?

Where is the source of information regarding the difference between 3 and 4 cannons!? Can't find it..
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/21-gun_salute#United_States
Thanx! But would you mind if you could show me the sentences on the difference between 3 and 4 cannons!?
7th paragraph under United States
The paragraph says:
"This includes, for example, a three-gun battery firing two of its guns with five-second intervals between rounds and one gun remaining at the ready in case of a misfire; such a battery would be used at an Armed Forces Full Honors Funeral, or for State Arrival Ceremony of a foreign dignitary at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery. Look for 3rd infantry customs and traditions (cannon)
I see it now! Thanx a lot!! :D
Could you post a link?
I just saw that only Biden had 3 cannons. But I still haven't found anything saying it has to be 4 cannons!!
... and only two of them were actually used. Why were they firing in the cemetery? It looked like they were just fooling around in a driveway compared to the other 21 gun salutes.
The third one is for when one of them misfires
Found this video on youtube which strengthens this observation even more.

So 3 cannons at 10 second intervals means what?

Where can I search to back this up? I’m trying to find this protocol.
