Working towards a goal (making sense of the puzzles) and eventually reaching it creates a sense of purpose and happiness that is way longer lasting than when just being given the desired result.
God asks of you to do you part to achieve your goals, while the devil lures you with immediate gratification. Which is easier, but the sense of accomplishment fades quicker, too; sometimes it even doesn't set in, at all.
