Buuuut Earth is technically* flat - trust me i'm an engineer !
*technically flat, unfortunately there are some details with some tolerances of curvature/protrusions ;) :D
u/Evspra -sorry if missunderstood, of course earth is not flat, but as (almost) mechanical engineer I was unable to not mention those poor joke about "flat earth" here above :D
Curvature of earth is claimed to be 8 inches per mile. Average person might be 0,001 (1/1000) mile high or less, so can anybody even notice 0,008 inch difference with bare eye ? That's the scale. It is just like some 1 stout hair breadth.
You are right,I was trying to explain it in oversimplified way.
you don't use the persons height you use the distance between observer and an object
Correct unless you compare something to something what is NOT too good idea but enough good to explain something to normies.
how are you an engineer?
Read sir, I ended my education 10 years ago,I am not working in engineering after studies (thank god at least because I am not living and wasn't studying in US I don't have to pay student loan),and so those "almost" so I forgot good habit to check all units. You are right.I just don't cared and not thought - especially not thought anybody would notice anyway.

8 inch per mile squared, and you dont use the persons height you use the distance between observer and an object, how are you an engineer?

Ahaha, fair enough! :D
