I was born and raised in Racine (pop about 100K) and never was aware of anything except it was the home of Johnson Wax and a large number of small factories were in town—the 70s and 80s did the city no favors since all of these closed and the jobs all left.

Same here. It’s an awful ghetto now, but I think this is a stretch.
