Allowed by Senate impeachment rules. People should read what they are before posting a "surprise" observation. The only person who could not be a presiding judge is a sitting VP, due to vested interest and having a deciding vote in case of the 66-34 split.

My point is that the whole thing was disgraceful whether the rules allow it or not. He was highly partisan, and he should not have presided if he intended to vote. It just reinforced that this was just to get Trump, decency be damned.
