This is a pretty significant period of what could easily be considered “darkness”. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this?

I haven't been around much snow but it was very dry. It sparkled and you couldn't build a snowman with it. Snowballs just fell apart when you threw them. Never experienced snow like that. Then it froze every night making it a crunchy thick ice.
You can't make snowmen with really cold snow. Like you said, it just falls apart. "Packing" snow for making snowballs and snowmen is usually close to 32 degrees F. It's just on the verge of melting, so it sticks together.
Thanks. I just haven't experienced snow like that. Usually it's wet. I've always lived in hot places.
No problem. I've been reading posts about people noticing "dry snow" like styrofoam and wondering about it. It never dawned on me what they were referring to until I read your post.
