A straight person who adopts a celibate lifestyle is still straight.

A man who wishes to have sex with other men is gay whether he acts on his impulses or not.

Milo is an ex-gay the way your grandmother who is now bedridden in a nursing home used to be straight.

If an alcoholic desires alcohol but refrains is he still considered sober?

People who struggle with addiction know that some of those desires may never disappear. That doesn't diminish their success in refraining from the action.
