Teacher here (on a phone so shorter). With all of the discussion we have about school on some posts I wanted to share some I formation. 1) Teach your young children to read by talking to them often. Talk to them about sounds (look up orthographic mapping), and about word meaning. 2 ) Build a base for math by counting with your children, playing board games, card games, dice games, and having them estimate how much you put into the cart. 3 ) Teach them your values by living your values - the best way to impart character to your children is for them to catch it, instead of hear it. 4) Have conversations about what you believe with your children. It is never to early to help them truly believe, and also ask and answer questions about faith. If you don’t, someone will... 5) The above 4 should keep your child in general education, and most likely push them into the high end of their class. 6) Finally, get involved if your children go to public school. Volunteer in the classroom: on the PTO, and on the School board. Visible parents reduce the chances of bad things being taught. Teachers do remember who helps them, and will go the extra mile for your children when you it there.

Two resources: teaching reading - orthographic mapping explained in this video from reading league
Teach math [tasks, strategies, videos(youcubed.org)
I think the above two resources will provide the best value for your effort. Above all (In my opinion) make learning fun. Create memories around the skills (games, fun, laughing...). For reading : snuggle, praise, find sun ways to read. If possible, make it so enjoyable, your kids will almost feel your hugs when they read on their own. Read theBible with your children with the same interest as you would a science book. Go over it like you are getting gold in every part. Study it (with joy and awe) more so than any other instructional book. This will back up the value in the Bible when the teachers tell them The earth is millions of years old, and that the Science of evolution is more important than the charming “creation stories” of the Bible.
The war for the minds of our children has been going for decades. We home schooled our 3 boys in NZ for three years because we disagreed with the curriculum being taught at that time. It's easier than you think and well worth the effort. Our boys now well balanced critical thinking adults.
I’m very happy to hear it! It is great to hear about anyone getting around the system!
Nice one. Blame the typo on your phone, as well as your height?
Typos - My fault always/ either I’m not paying attention when autocorrect engraves, or my fat thumbs dance on the wrong keys. Finally, I have gotten to that age where I need bifocals, and the phone screen text sometimes looks like Pepper on my screen.
