In all seriousness, consider an ICF home. Insulted Concrete Forms. You can have 6 or 8 inch concrete walls, all steel reinforced. They have foam on the outside of the forms with inserts that run through the concrete every 8 inches perfect for drywalling and siding right up to it. Most thermally insulted, air tight home that you can build...
With a few modifications, and proper filtration your entire home could potentially be a fall out shelter.. I absolutely do not understand people who build 400K homes with softwood stick builds.
Agreed. Although, buying land and outfitting with all the typical modern day creature comforts is almost more expensive than constructing an ICF home by itself (at least here in Austin) and finding a company willing to assist you that won't charge you an arm and a leg for this "non-conventional" building method. Specialized companies know the demand, and charge accordingly for this "futuristic" dwelling.
Ahh... Yeah having a contractor doubles sometimes triples the price of the home..
Lets say you want a 250K home... Well it cost 400K if a builder does it for you, and then by the time you get your mortgage finished, youve paid 800k for principal plus interest. a 250K home cost 800K now adays when its all said and done...
You gotta put them hands to work! Youtube it! I did not realize how simple the world was until I picked up a set of hand tools.
I mean..... Most logical people buy these, and retro fit them into steel framed houses.
I guess some people build missile silos, who knew....
I often thought about building a shipping container home. Very versatile and abundant.
Perfect use-case for housing and camouflaging ready / active missiles on inconspicuous cargo ships.
Its dual purpose flexibility must be whats keep container prices so high..
Good point!
