So I'm not a liberal puke, but if I was I would say we need to stop gun violence to save lives. Sound about right? Ok so lets just see how many deaths per year we can award to "guns". According to this site https://usafacts.org/data/topics/security-safety/crime-and-justice/firearms/firearm-deaths/ we can attribute 39,707 gun deaths in 2019. This includes everything from homicide, to suicide, to hunting accidents.
Now we know that according to the CDC, suicide is in the top 10 of reasons for death in the US:https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/leading-causes-of-death.htm
We can also see that things like diabetes and heart disease are some of the main causes of death. One thing I don't see in that top 10 is homicide. Even when you tally all homicidal deaths (with or without guns), they don't make the top 10 reasons for death. So why the hard push for gun control? Why aren't there blue haired tranny's protesting and pushing to ban Woka-Cola (or any other soda pop company)?
The answer is simple. This isn't to save lives, as we all know. Its not to make america great or even keep us safe. Its only to enslave us. They're using the liberals because they are weak in mind and in spirit, and respond best to fear. I know I'm kicking a dead horse with you guys reading this, but maybe it will help open the eyes of some of your sleeping friends/family.
One counterargument I often hear to this is that "guns are designed only to kill. Everything else you listed is by happenstance. Knives have other functions- to cut food. Booze doesn't hurt anyone but yourself. But guns are a tool made specifically to kill, and they kill far too many people in America. It is unnecessary to allow it. Car deaths are horrible, but cars serve our entire economy. It is not so clear cut to just get rid of those. Guns, getting rid of them would only help."
In response:
Guns save many lives in America. I believe it's actually more than they take, but it's been a while since I looked at the statistic. Of course, these are almost NEVER reported.
Yes, guns are meant to kill. But this goes both ways. While it does aid in psychotic killing sprees, it is also the only way a little old lady could possibly defend herself from a violent attacker or burglar. The police will never arrive on time. The gun is "The Great Equalizer." And it's true.
The founders of this country wrote our constitution based on Natural Rights. To me, it is a strong argument to say that we have a RIGHT to defend ourselves from harm. I don't see how someone can say that we don't have that right. Although it comes with downsides, in the end we must be consistent with rights, or we go down the slippery slope of not having any rights at all. Government tyranny is a real thing that we have been mostly entirely protected from in the USA.
Defending against government takeover. While liberals may scoff at this, I don't. Yes it's true that the government has bombs and planes and tanks, they cannot forget the optics game. If the government was just bombing civilians in the middle of the country, this might cause the entire nation to revolt, even many liberals. The confiscation of our rights happening door-to-door is far more likely. How many American's have guns? There is way more private gun owners than police and military combined. And how many of those would be willing to turn on their fellow citizens? Without guns, this becomes a much easier pill for police and military to swallow. They wouldn't mind going door to door and tyrannizing us, because their personal threat level is much reduced. And they could be talked into it easier. This is psychology.
Great response, thank you.
One note: Booze does hurt more than the user, ask many families. Also, food/drink/consumables that cause major health problems also drives up health costs (IE insurance rates), which affects everyone. Once again, in no way am I saying the government should be saving everyone from themselves, i'm just pointing out the exclusion of guns from everything else that causes life loss to our country.
