Pedes, 17 meters is almost 56 feet. Wouldn't 56 feet mean it was floating?

.17 meters =6-7 inches. That seems to make more sense. :)

17 meters in a direction such as northwest or whatever. there are likely sloping banks all along this section of the canal so unless it straightens out it likely just keeps pushing bank along
